Stanley Budner, N. Y. (1962). Intolerance of ambiguity as a personality variable. Journal of Personality, 30(1), 29–50.

This is a condensed version of Budner’s 1960 PhD thesis. It posits that people have a given tolerance for ambiguity and provides a test for exploring that in an individual. Here’s a good version of the quiz on its own.
